Be fluid like water

In this week’s blog, I want to expand a bit more on the message behind the full quote I wrote about in this month’s Joy Matters newsletter from martial arts legend Bruce Lee. (By the way, if you don’t get my newsletter, you can easily sign up for it here.) Here's the quote: “Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless – like water. Now you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup, you put water into a bottle, it becomes the bottle, you put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now water can flow, or it can crash. Be water, my friend.” When I ran across this quote a few years ago, I immediately understood the magic behind Lee’s amazing martial arts abilities.  It was all about being flexible, going with the flow, surrendering instead of forcing.  And in my opinion, one of the fastest ways to remember your joy.  This is what I mean.

Meditate on your vision

In today’s blog, I share a very simple meditation practice to help reinforce your 2020 intentions from either the collage you did from last week’s post, or if you haven’t done one, then to help you visualize what you want your renewed self to look like this year. And for those of you who did do your collage, you’ll discover some useful information on how to interpret your collage.   We'll start with the meditation...

Write your own story

Have you ever done a vision board before?  How was it for you? There are plenty of resources online that teach how to do them.  Or you can take a class and have fun doing yours in a group.  Or you can just decide to sit down with a heap of magazines and make your own dream board. I’ve done a few in the past. Some looked like just a bunch of random words and pictures. That is, until I learned a new way of interpreting them in a much deeper way, which inevitably helped me to write my better story for my future self. Want to learn what I learned?

Looking within to determine your future

I hope the start of your new year has been great and that you’ve set some intentions that will be good for your joyful spirit. I was busy leading up to New Year’s Day in reflection of the past year.  In fact, I actually looked back at the last decade, celebrating my progress and honouring the challenges for the blessing of growth. I love this time of renewal.  I love the process of going within to discover what really matters to me.  I love the silent optimism that swells in my heart.  And I love the hopeful anticipation of seeing my new intentions manifest at exactly the right time.  This month is all about you.  Of the things you want to leave behind to make room for the new beginnings of the new year.  It’s about your vision of who and what you want to become.  But sometimes we need a little guidance to discover what our soul is telling us. Perhaps I can help.

Be grateful for your “enough-ness”

As a serial joy and abundance activist, I’ve learned that one of the biggest barriers to living a life of ultimate joy is the illusion that there’s not enough. In fact, staying in the frequency of fear only perpetuates this myth by attracting more “lack” because you are unconsciously summoning experiences that validate your current belief of lack. But by expressing gratitude for all the things you do have – a roof over your head, warm running water, food in your belly, people you can count on, is the fastest way to joy.

Release and be grateful during the full moon tonight

It’s a full moon tonight!  How appropriate that this week’s blog falls on a full moon and that this month’s joy habit is gratitude! If you’ve been a regular reader of my weekly blogs and monthly newsletter, you know that I do my own monthly moon ceremonies – at new moon and at full moon.  Since the full moon is the time of release when you let go so that you can let in all the things you desire, I view gratitude as a form of release.  This is what I mean.

Gratitude is the gift you give yourself

Cultures throughout the world set aside a special day of the year or an entire season to give thanks. For example, in North America we celebrate “Thanksgiving” in October for Canada and November in the United States.  China celebrates the Mid-Autumn Festival, Germany has Erntedankfest (Harvest Festival).  In Japan there is the celebration of Kinrō Kansha no Hi (Labor Thanksgiving Day), Vietnam has Têt-Trung-Thu Festival and India celebrates Pongal. All countries include some kind of ritual as part of their annual celebration. And although dedicating a day or season to express appreciation is a wonderful way to practice gratitude, I believe you can express your thanks more often with a sense of ritual as well.
