When you look in the mirror, what do you see? I hope you see the divine human that you really are. The unique one, like no other.
Acknowledging your divinity sends a loving signal to the universe that you have taken your own special place in this world and that your existence matters. That’s self-reverence and the subject of this week’s post.
If you’ve been a regular reader of my monthly blog series, you know that I tend to examine most monthly joy habits from the inside out. Meaning that real change can only start from within.
So if you feel like you’re not getting enough love or respect from others, ask yourself if you are showing love and respect to yourself?
People will only treat you the way you treat yourself. It’s up to you to own your own divinity before the inner light that you possess can be reflected back to you by others.
But what if you don’t feel worthy of respect or reverence and find it challenging to recognize your divinity as you look in the mirror?
If that’s the case, you’re not alone. In fact, that was the impetus for writing my book Being Joy™ and the reason I was guided to start with the joy habit of “Be Worthy” for Chapter 1.
The state of unworthiness has been such a chronic condition for many people, and in particular for women. I agree with Louise Hay who believed that the root of most of our problems in life is contained in the feeling I’m not good enough.
In my book I say, “When we have unconsciously set the bar so high for what makes a good mom, a good wife, a good friend, a good daughter, a good employee, or a good boss, it’s no wonder that at the end of the day, the woman behind all those labels begins to feel inadequate and worse still – unworthy.”
Although I wrote that passage primarily for some of the women I had met throughout my life, I am beginning to see more and more men who are finally opening up about there own vulnerabilities – such an important first step towards wholeness and joy.
In my book I continue saying that “There are plenty of reasons why a state of unworthiness might exist such as not feeling like we measure up to what society expects. Some of this is adopted as we mature and begin to perpetuate beliefs that validate life experiences we have already had – This happened to me before and it will happen again. I just have bad luck. I must not be good enough. Others suffer from poor self-worth because of family upbringing or other negative situations in their lives, which occurred in their formative years as they were learning to define themselves.”
Opening your heart to revere your own divinity allows you to recognize it in others. That helps you to form deeper connections with others since the need to compare or judge will be diminished. You recognize a similar spirit, one that is worthy of respect.
By acknowledging and then revering the worthiness of each one of us, we begin to reshape our planet into a more loving, equitable and sustainable place to thrive. And that my friend is joyful living.
Sending you love and reverence from your Joy Mama,
