Are you someone who is in constant motion? Do you crave change? Are you able to see opportunities where others just see rubble?
If this describes some of your characteristics, then your purpose may be that of a “builder” – someone who is likely either a serial entrepreneur or literally in the building profession. And just like Michelangelo who when asked how he could create such a masterpiece as his famous statue of David, said, “I saw the angel in the marble and carved until I set him free.” , you too are being called to transform matter into your masterpiece. You may be an alchemist my friend.
Since this month’s joy habit is about being on purpose, I have been introducing a different expression of purpose in my weekly blog series. Last week I talked about people whose passion is to teach – in the classroom, the boardroom, or the fitness, health, or counselling rooms. I also talked about the important role we all share in teaching others from our own lived experiences.
This week I’m asking you to examine your own inclinations in order to understand the deeper purpose that you agreed to fulfill when you chose to show up in this lifetime. And if that is of a builder of things or companies, then I ask you to honour that trait and do that thing with passion and purpose.
You see, when you have passion for your purpose, your work doesn’t feel like work – it is just part of who you are. In fact, you end up loving your life even more through your labour. And when that happens, we all benefit. Not just from what you have created, but we are elevated by the joy vibration you emit by living on purpose. As the French essayist, Charles Du Bos, said “Joy is but the sign that creative emotion is fulfilling its purpose.”
No matter how you choose to express your purpose, please know that it matters. Show it with passion so the world can be enriched by your presence.
