Quote over indigo mandala - “Abundance is simply spirit celebrating.” ~Mike Dooley – The Universe

A few years ago when I was exhibiting at a metaphysical trade show, a woman came up to my booth and wanted to share her philosophy about spirituality. Tends to happen a lot at these kinds of fairs.  Not wishing to be rude, I let her explain her point of view.

She was of the opinion that she had to suffer in order to attain enlightenment.  And furthermore, she believed that in order to be a spiritual person, she had to live a life of poverty.  Well as a conscious capitalist who is also a person who deeply believes in Spirit and the goodness in all, I was a bit taken aback.  I asked her how she came to that conclusion.

After smiling nervously and thinking a bit about it, she explained that because she was already poor, there must have been a reason for her lot in life and the conclusion she came to was that it must be because she is “so spiritual”.

There was no point in trying to convince her that it was her poverty consciousness that kept her in a state of suffering and lack as that was her belief and she was sticking to it.  But it reminded me of a quote I found by Abraham-Hicks on the subject that goes,

“Spiritual versus Material are not the choices.  Everything about this physical manifestational experience is spiritual. It is all the end product of spirit.  You have nothing to prove.  Be the spiritual you and create like a physical fiend.”

To me, the message in this quote is about balancing the spirit and the material – it’s about the “and” and not the “or”.  They are one and the same.  Once you harmonize both of these aspects in this human experience, you can live more fully in the high vibration of joy energy which is always loving and abundant.

Here are a few tools that I use to help me nurture my spirit so that I can better tune into abundance.

My spiritual sanctuary time:

I am an early riser.  My circadian clock clicks in at about 4:30 and I’m always up by 5, every day of the week. In the winter when it’s dark, I love to turn on all my salt lamps in the living room and switch on my gas fireplace.  I light some incense and burn a candle.  I have soft music in the background, and I sip on my big bowl of matcha tea while pulling a few oracle cards and then reading until about 7.  Sometimes I just sit and meditate for a few minutes before I read and other days the reading and sipping is meditative enough. Some days I listen to a meditation recording. Every other day I start with about 30 minutes of yoga.  It just depends.  I let my body and soul tell me what they need.  This is a really important part of my day that sets the frequency for what I intentionally create for the balance of my waking hours and then my slumber.

Here are a few of my favourite resources for spiritual sanctuary time.

Oracle Cards

Recently I’ve been using four decks each morning.  Doreen Virtue’s Archangel Oracle Cards, Denise Linn’s Native Spirit Oracle Cards, Meggan Watterson’s The Divine Feminine Oracle Cards, and my own deck Joy Medicine Oracle Cards.  Here’s a favourite of mine from The Divine Feminine deck of Lakshmi, the Goddess of Abundance.  Very cool!

Meditation Recordings

My go-to CD when I feel myself wandering into poverty consciousness is the track on Financial Abundance from the Getting into the Vortex Guided Meditation CD by Esther and Jerry Hicks.  It’s only about 15 minutes and really works for me.  When I want something a little longer, I enjoy Joe Dispenza’s CDs.  He has several guided meditations tapes and the two that I especially enjoy are the Blessings of the Energy Centers and the Morning & Evening Meditations.  I also really like Dr. Andrew Weil’s Mindbody Tool Kit 2CDs and Wayne Dyer’s Getting in the Gap.

Books

I always start off by reading the day’s chapter from Mark Nepo’s The Book of Awakening.  This is one of my favourite books and I have given many copies of it to friends over the years.  It’s that special.  Then I move on to reading a chapter or two from whatever book has decided to show itself to me from my bookcase.  I let my intuition guide me for what messages will nourish me the most.  More often than not, it’s a book I have forgotten about and thus begins an entire month or two of reading about a particular subject. It’s binge reading!

Crystals

I love working with crystals and use them in my meditation and on my body.  I’m partial to clear quartz crystal, rose quartz, citrine, lapis, and selenite.  If you’re not already familiar with crystals, there are some great online resources and books that can tell you more about their usages.

Essential Oils

I always use essential oils during my morning sanctuary time.  I generally start by anointing my brow and heart with the Young Living blend The Gift and end with the blend Gratitude.  Sometimes I’ll use Gathering or Grounding and if I’m drifting into feelings of lack, I use the blend Abundance.  In fact, I talked about Abundance in this month’s newsletter Joy Matters. If you don’t already subscribe to it, click here and I’ll send you a free eBook about the 8 Barrier to Joy & Abundance.

There are many other tools you can use to create your own sacred space for spiritual sanctuary.  Even if you can’t do it every day, try and find a few times a week when you can nurture your soul.  It’s important and you’ll notice the difference.

I’ll leave you now with one of my favourite quotes by Mike Dooley, a.k.a The Universe.  I have been following Mike for nearly 20 years and love his sense of humour.  I signed up to get his daily message from The Universe and of the many emails I receive each morning, I always read his.  EnJOY.

“Do you think I ultimately reward those who live in poverty? Do you think those who toil and sweat from paycheck to paycheck are more likely to inherit the Kingdom than those who work in ivory towers? Do you think I take special notice of sacrifices? That I’m pleased when some put the needs of others before their own? Or that I favour those who strive to live spiritual lives? Actually, I don’t give a flying yahoo –  I love you no matter what rules you make up.”

Until next time, keep your frequency high, your mind open, and your joy ever expanding!
