Quote over blue mandala - "Raise your words, not your voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder." ~Rumi

What words do you use when you speak to yourself? When you speak to others?  Are they uplifting and motivating or demeaning and disempowering?  Believe me, it matters.

When you speak in quiet and non-aggressive tones and send out loving peaceful thoughts, you can literally make change happen. Your words have power.  Let me explain.

A few years ago, I was fortunate enough to attend a seminar lead by the late Dr. Masaru Emoto, a Japanese author and entrepreneur who was known for his research into the effect that human consciousness has on the molecular structure of water.

In his many books such as, Messages from Water and Hidden Messages in Water, which contain photographs of water crystals, Dr. Emoto claimed that high-quality water forms beautiful and intricate crystals, while low-quality water had difficulty forming crystals at all. He suggested that positive changes to water crystals could be achieved through prayer, music, or by attaching written words to a container of water.

The pictures in his books are quite amazing and I encourage you to pick up a copy of one to see for yourself. I have a poster hanging in my office of a photograph of one of the frozen crystals that has the words “thank you” written on the bottle. It is magical and beautiful – just the way loving words should look.

Of course, the point is that because half the earth is made of water and we are three-quarters water ourselves, what we think and say has a dramatic effect on us and on the world around us.

Dr. Emoto was quoted as saying: “We have learned that our human consciousness is related to water at deeper level through water crystal technology. And this fact has resonated with different people in different countries. However, this fact has not been taught at any school. The words “Thank you” have positive vibrations and the words “You fool” have negative vibrations and to ignore is to deny the existence itself and this will give the most negative effects.”

Let’s talk a little more about the vibrational power of your words.  You see, everything is vibration.  When we speak in ways that are aggressive or hateful, or in peaceful ways, we can literally change the vibration and shape of sound waves.

It’s all about the energy.

For example, we know that frequency is the electrical energy that is constant between two points and that everything has an electrical frequency including us.  So therefore, how we think, feel, and speak, influences everything around us.

Another study in word frequency was conducted by Doreen Virtue and her son Grant Virtue who in their book Angel Words, chronicled their examination of the visual frequency of words.  When they were recording podcasts, they noticed that whenever Doreen said the word “angel”, the recording graphics were shaped like angel wings.

They then began to study other words she said and realized that those words with a spiritual or loving basis had large graphics and when negative words were spoken, their appearance was completely different – tight and small.

Similar to the work of Dr. Emoto’s with water crystals, Doreen & Grant Virtue’s study provides visual proof of the power of speaking in a loving and peaceful way – either towards yourself or others.

Bottom line, respect the words you use as they have consequences.  As Viktor Frankl, the Austrian neurologist, psychiatrist, philosopher, author, and Holocaust survivor said, “Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response.  In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

Choose wisely.
