quote over violet mandala - “A man is but the product of his thoughts what he thinks, he becomes.” ~Mahatma Gandhi

Most of the time we are busy thinking and doing, thinking and doing.  It’s just automatic.  But have you ever really thought about the thoughts you are actually thinking?  Where they originated and how habitual they have become over time?  Are these your thoughts or someone else’s?

You see, we can easily become trapped by the “hypnosis of social conditioning”, as I’ve often heard Deepak Chopra refer to it this way. And this conditioning can be quite insidious.

But you have a choice.

You can choose thoughts that are empowering instead of self-defeating. Thoughts that are kind rather than those that are demeaning.  Thoughts that energize and lift you up or thoughts that deflate you.

Your choice.

But at the end of the day, the thoughts you think are what you become.

Choosing your thoughts wisely is much more than just positive thinking.  It’s deeper and comes from the place deep inside where you are in sync with your natural state of wellbeing. And when your choices are in right relation with your inner self, you’ll know it by the way you feel.  You’ll feel at peace.  You’ll feel in balance.  And you’ll feel joy.

Learn to trust your intuition as the guiding force behind what thoughts will serve you and which ones will cause you to suffer. And don’t discount that repetitive thought that creeps into your consciousness – the one that tells you to pay attention to a body ache or the premonition you keep having about a future happening.  And please don’t ignore that kernel of an idea that is just waiting to be born.

Here’s a little exercise from my book Being Joy™ that you can do anytime you feel yourself slipping into negative self talk or succumbing to thoughts that you know are not in alignment with your authentic self:

WAKING MEDITATION: In the morning, before getting out of bed, spend five or ten minutes just smiling and sending loving thoughts to yourself. Then think about what you have planned for the day and choose joy first before you see the outcome. Do your best to stay in a good feeling vibe throughout the day, no matter what happens. Chances are you’ll attract more good experiences than otherwise because of your choice to be happy first.

Thoughts have power.  And you are in the driver’s seat for how you choose to use that power.  As Mike Dooley, co-founder of The Universe Talks and Notes from the Universe says, “Thoughts become things”.  So choose wisely.
