What happens when you worry?

In a great article published on WebMD, the author asks: “Are you an excessive worrier? Perhaps you unconsciously think that if you “worry enough,” you can prevent bad things from happening. But the fact is, worrying can affect the body in ways that may surprise you. When worrying becomes excessive, it can lead to feelings of high anxiety and even cause you to be physically ill.”

The article goes on to say: “Chronic worrying can affect your daily life so much that it may interfere with your appetite, lifestyle habits, relationships, sleep, and job performance. Many people who worry excessively are so anxiety-ridden that they seek relief in harmful lifestyle habits such as overeating, cigarette smoking, or using alcohol and drugs.”

Pretty good reasons to do your best to put aside the worry and pessimism about the future and instead adopt an optimistic outlook. Remember, it’s always a choice. Here’s the link if you want to read more: https://www.webmd.com/balance/guide/how-worrying-affects-your-body#1

Like I said in last week’s blog, no one knows enough to be a pessimist. Worry just robs you of your joy and in fact, in many ways can make things worse.
If you are a chronic worrier just remember these profound words of George Bernard Shaw:

”People become attached to their burdens sometimes more than the burdens are attached to them.”
