Red mandala with words - "I don't like myself, I'm crazy about myself" - Mae West

Gotta love a bold “dame” who knows her worth like May West did! So today, I’m going to start you on a fabulous journey that will help shift your energy from “woe is me”, to “wow is me!”  And I can’t wait to share the very first assignment!

Over the next five Wednesdays that I’ve dedicated to the Being Joy™ theme of generosity, I will give you five assignments – one for each week. I call them “The Five Letters of Generosity”.

So let’s get started on the first one.

I want you to write a love letter to yourself.

I got the idea from the activity I provided for Chapter 20 of my book Being Joy™ on generosity.  The activity was to write a letter to someone who you haven’t talked to in a while to let them know they matter.  And I got to thinking that perhaps you haven’t told yourself how worthy you are in a while, perhaps never.

Now’s the time.

Authentic generosity starts with being loving to yourself.  Because if you can’t give to yourself, you won’t be able to genuinely give to others.  And there are likely people in your orbit right now who could use some encouragement and generosity of spirit.

So here’s what you’ll need to do.

Find some nice writing paper and a favourite pen you like to write with.  I’m partial to fountain pens for something like this.  Always makes me feel special.  And that’s what this is all about.  Feeling special!

Next, select a time when you will not be disturbed and a place where you will be comfortable. Play some nice music.  Put a beautiful essential oil in your diffuser.  Pour yourself a yummy cup of tea (at least that’s what I do).

Then start to write.

Tell yourself how much you appreciate who you are, your loving heart, the way you make others feel.  Gush about your attributes and accomplishments.  Pour it on.  This is about being really generous about the love you feel for yourself.  Let yourself know that you matter.  Take as long as you need.

Then fold the letter and put it in a self-addressed envelope.  Remember the stamp.  A really pretty one will make it feel even more special.

Then mail it to yourself.  Chances are that the day it arrives in your mailbox will be the very day you need a boost.  It just works that way.

Remember that feeling.  Because that’s the way others feel when you’re generous with them.  It’s a circle you know.

Until next week, keep your frequency high, your mind open, and your joy ever expanding!

Love from your Joy Mama,
